Fine ARTS

The mission of the Fine Arts Department of Faith West Academy is to provide a Christ-centered, creative atmosphere for discovery, training, and appreciation of the Visual and Performing Arts, rooted in Christian values, to the students, parents, and the larger community of Faith West Academy.

Our faculty works to nurture and develop the creative and God-given talents that are present in EVERY student, guided by Christian values. This process of discovery, appreciation and instruction comes through early exposure, enrichment and participation in the elementary school years, and develops into in-depth, concentrated study at the secondary school level through elective classes, special events and extra-curricular opportunities for students to participate in shows, productions and competitions.

From these experiences, we aim to build a deep love and appreciation for the arts in our children and their parents. We passionately encourage our students to develop their artistic skills throughout their lifetime, knowing that our Creator has made us in His image and allows us to experience creativity. As a leading private school, Faith West Academy is committed to fostering an environment where the arts flourish, and students can explore their creativity while deepening their faith. By integrating the arts into our curriculum, we prepare our students not only for artistic expression but also for a life enriched by beauty, creativity, and a closer relationship with God.

HONOR CODE

Faith West students are expected to live their lives according to a code of conduct. Secondary students (6th through 12th grade) are required to sign the Honor Code. This pledge becomes part of their permanent file.

"As a student of Faith West Academy, I pledge to exhibit reverence for God, respect for myself, others, and those in authority, and to take responsibility for my own actions.

Reverence to God – Reverence can be defined as “a feeling of deep awe and respect.” It is through obedience to Him that we truly display reverence.

Respect to myself, others, and authority – From its Greek root timao, respect literally means “to place a great value on something.” We are living examples of Christ as we show respect to others.

Responsibility for my own actions – Responsibility involves being personally accountable for words, attitudes, and actions. When our words, attitudes, and actions are consistent with the commands of Christ, we are living responsibly.

I will live out reverence, respect, and responsibility by committing to honesty, academic integrity, sportsmanship, and gratitude.

I will submit myself to the leadership of Faith West Academy and to the Code of Conduct (found in the Secondary Handbook). I realize that my attendance at Faith West Academy is a privilege and not a right. I determine to give my best and to prayerfully support FWA and its philosophy of providing a quality education without compromising the Word of God"

What happens if I forget to order hot lunches by Wednesday of the previous week?

You must send your child with lunch or purchase one or more of the items available for daily purchase in the cafeteria (see below for a list of items offered). These purchases will be charged to your child’s Lunchtime Software account.

What is the Lunchtime Software account?

Lunchtime Software is NOT the same as the new Lunch Direct Hot Lunch Program. If you are a returning student, you do not need to create a new account. New students will need to create a Lunchtime Software account using these instructions. The Lunchtime Software account is ONLY used for purchases made in the FWA Cafeteria.

What is the difference between a standard-sized lunch and a large lunch?

Here are some general guidelines to help you determine which lunch may be best for your child. Standard lunch is $5.75; large lunch is $7.50, boxed lunch is $7.50.

Hamburger - Standard: one hamburger patty. Large: two hamburger patties

Pizza - Standard: one slice. Large: two slices

Pasta/Casserole - Standard: one cup; Large: one and a quarter cups

What happens if my child is still hungry?

Your child may purchase an item or items from the cafeteria.

What if my child is absent on a day that he/she was supposed to receive a hot lunch?

Day-of absences cannot be reimbursed. If you know your child will have a prolonged absence and you have already pre-ordered hot lunches for them, you will need to call Roadrunner Foods at 281-565-7902 to cancel your child’s hot lunches. Roadrunner Foods will need two days’ notice to cancel pre-ordered hot lunches for reimbursement.

SECURITY AT FAITH WEST ACADEMY

All of our teachers are ALICE certified:

Alert

Lockdown

Inform

Counter

Evacuate

Mrs. Gough is an ALICE instructor with over 16 hours of training with SWAT and Police personnel. She also continues each year with training through The Texas School Safety Center and Region 4 School Safety Programs.

  • Does our local police department know our campus?

    1. Currently Harris County Police Department has a map of the campus with the names of the buildings, all classroom numbers and teacher locations.
    2. We partner with Katy, Harris County, and Fort Bend County Police departments as well as Life Flight, and EMS to plan and prepare for any active shooters scenarios (now called Violent Critical Incidents).
  • What security measures are taken daily?

    1. There is an armed Harris County police officer on campus from 7am until 4pm every day.
    2. There are 57 cameras monitored all day by the administrative team and our on-campus law enforcement.
    3. All staff are ALICE trained.
    4. All classroom doors are locked during the school day, and campus gates are locked from the inside and outside.
    5. All campus visitors must check in and out via the one main entrance.
    6. All staff and students entering or leaving campus during the day must check in and out via the main entrance.

  • Do you perform threat assessments?

We have in place The School Threat Assessment and Threat Management Training through SIGMA. This program is utilized by the school in the event of a threat of any kind.  This tool determines whether an imminent threat or danger to a school or person exists and determines if there is a need to conduct a full threat assessment, inquiry, or investigation.

SOCIALS AND DANCE GUIDELINES

In keeping with Faith West Academy’s vision, we want to provide our students and parents with the goals for the FWA school social events. Our mission is to provide a fun, wholesome environment in which students may socialize and fellowship. Through these events, we hope to provide a training ground for the students to develop skills in social etiquette and conduct. In order to accomplish these goals, the following guidelines will be observed.

  • Once a student enters the designated area of the event, that student will not be allowed to leave and re-enter. When the student leaves the designated area, the student must leave the property. (No hanging out in parking lot or vehicles.)
  • All FWA social events are alcohol, tobacco, and drug free. Our zero tolerance policy will be strictly enforced.

As a committed private school, we recognize the importance of fostering a safe and supportive environment where students can grow socially and spiritually. By adhering to these guidelines, we aim to ensure that all social events align with our core values and contribute positively to the overall development of our students. We appreciate the support of our families in maintaining the integrity of our events and look forward to creating memorable experiences for our Faith West Academy community.

  • The following will not be acceptable:

    • Skin tight clothing
    • Any skin showing in the midriff area
    • Low-cut or backless tops (if it is too low in either the front or the back for a strapless bra to be worn, it is not acceptable.)
    • Skirts, dresses or shorts that are shorter than tips of finger when standing with arms by side
    • Male students may not be shirtless and shirts must have sleeves
    • Inflammatory or vulgar logos/costumes

If the event is only for high school students, then no junior high students will be allowed to attend. No exceptions.

  • Non-Faith West Guests

If a student wants to invite someone from outside of Faith West Academy, they must get approval from the administration. Approval for a guest may not be given at the door. The guest will not be admitted unless the Reservation and Release of Liability form is returned to the main office at least one day prior to the dance. Please note that when bringing a guest from outside of Faith West Academy, that guest should be of the opposite gender and be no older than twenty. There are four Secondary Recognition Assemblies each school year, one for each term/semester.

For Term One and Term Three, we present an A Honor Roll certificate to those students that receive an A average in each subject for those terms.

Awards are given to the student with the highest overall average per subject.  One award is given to each EAP or Advanced Placement, and College Prep subject. An Arete award is also given for each subject. Arete is a Greek word that means excellence of any kind; the act of living up to one's full potential. Sometimes translated as "virtue," the word actually means something closer to "being the best you can be," or "reaching your highest human potential."
